Liberal bourgeois democracy is an illusion, at least for the workers it is. The liberal democracy present in the USA and United Kingdom both act as oligarchies which are mere extensions of power for the wealthy imperialist bourgeoisie. The reason no mass social reforms can be brought out by socialist and Social-Democratic politicians is because it is the very wealthy and political lobbyists who the government serve. This is why Marx and Engels referred to capitalist states run by classical liberalism and humanist republicanism as “dictatorships of the bourgeoisie”.
